Don't leave your bulletins in the pews; instead, recycle your bulletins in the basket in the Narthex.

In the months of August and early September, different members of our parish will be hosting neighborhood gatherings.  There will be nine of these gatherings in different areas.  We hope each member of the parish will be able to attend one of these gatherings. The ideal is to attend the one that is in your area.  This way you will be able to get to know the people who live nearby.  If you cannot make the date of your neighborhood gathering because of a conflict, please attend another one where the date is more convenient.

You will receive an invitation for the closest gathering to you.  RSVP's are important so our hosts know how to plan.  We hope this will be an opportunity for people to get to know each other better as well as a chance to discuss our hopes and dreams for the future of Ascension.

Next Sunday is a fifth Sunday which our Liturgy commission has designated as a creative worship opportunity.  We will offer a Taizé service with the Eucharist at the 10:00 service.

U2Eucharist   Wednesday August 27th at 7:30 pm     This is a contemporary service using the music of U2.  The band began as a Christian band and even their newer stuff has some pretty significant Christian themes.  Both Charles Porter and Conor Alexander will be leading the music.  This liturgy was developed by an Episcopal priest. The liturgy is pretty close to the prayer book.  This is not a “rock mass.” We are not trying to be something that the Episcopal Church is not. The integrity of the liturgy is maintained.  If you do not know U2, or are not convinced their music is Christian, please look at this link on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emQvBUSQnY8&NR=1

Bible Study continues Wednesday, August 27th at 6:15 pm.  There are 2 more weeks of Bible study.  We are on chapter 6 right now.  Please do not worry if you have missed a couple of classes. You are always welcome!

Christian Education Sunday School:  We need two doorkeepers for the Sunday School this year.  If you can help out, please let Lynn Farlin or Susan Meredith know.  Don't forget to register for Sunday School.  Forms are in the Narthex.

Outreach news:  The Outreach Commission is collecting school supplies for the Mission of the Holy Spirit.  There is a box for donations in the Narthex. The most needed supply for the Mission this year is backpacks.  Donations will be taken to the Mission on Sept. 2nd.

Cursillo concurrent weekend:  October 30-November 2.  What is like a men's weekend, yet not; like a women's weekend, and yet not; and like a co-ed weekend, yet not?  The men and women have separate halls for discussion, summaries, and skits.  The speakers will be of the same gender as the group they are serving.  On the other hand, everyone will be together for worship, meals, one talk a day, and other events as they occur.  The team is co-ed.  Think you might like to be involved?  Ask an Ascension Cursillista or talk with David.  Deadline to register is October 1.  More info on the Cursillo bulletin board in the hallway.

Education for Ministry (EFM) is a four year program covering the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to meet once a week as we deepen our faith and learn more about our Christian heritage. Please contact Ann for further details at 496-1487 as soon as possible if interested in joining this EFM group. Classes start Sept. 5th 9:00 am - 12:00 noon.
