                      Fr. David's Reflections

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord and on behalf of our Ascension family:

Whenever the people of our parish get together and reflect on what brought them to Ascension, they usually comment on the friendly nature of our congregation.  I believe you will discover this for yourself if you decide to visit us.  We also characterize ourselves as diverse and caring; furthermore, we eat a lot together!  Maybe you get the idea that fellowship is important to us.  Underneath it all is, of course, a deeply felt common need to worship God and learn more about the spiritual life in Jesus Christ.  We like to think of ourselves as on a long and winding journey of faith.  We encounter various people and challenges along the way that may knock us off course, but we are always brought back on track by the love of God and by the sustaining concern of our faith community.  We are often in different places along the path, but we think that it’s all part of the Way things are.  We would love for you to become part of the pilgrimage that we perceive ourselves to be traveling together.

Ascension is small enough to offer a personal touch to many aspects of ministry in the lives of our members.  We’re small enough to know each other, small enough to feel “at home” after a relatively short time, small enough to get involved quickly if one chooses to.  On the other hand, we’re large enough to be a stable place:  we’re not always desperate for operating funds; we’re large enough to have an educational program for adults and children of all ages, we’re large enough to have a number of social and spiritual offerings throughout the year which enrich the lives of our members and our visitors; we’re large enough to have specialized programs such as a softball team and a flower guild and a children’ choir and any number of other ministries that have been started and maintained by loving and committed members of the church.  Best of all, we’re just the right size to welcome you into our family.

You will find more information about the Church of the Ascension on this web-

site.  Feel free to call us for more information or – better yet – come see us.  We believe the Holy Spirit is moving among us here and we hope you might consider moving among us too!

                                                                        Faithfully yours,

                                                                         David W. Davenport
